Hi, I would like to continue to work on this area and to connect to this road. However, it would be useful to have a source for your geometry so that I can see how the roads connected in the 17th century. Could you share your sources?

No problem. I originally mapped all the main roads leading out of Leiden as primaries based on a 17th century map. However, Zoeterwoudenseweg not being a paved road (straatweg) in the 19th century, and of course it connecting Leiden only with smaller settlements and not with large towns, does suggest another classification. I'll downgrade it to highway=secondary. And by the same argument I'll give Maredijk the same treatment

Interesting, a good find, but you seem to have misinterpreted the text slightly. In 1514 the dyke on the south side of the Rhine was raised and strengthened from Katwijk (Katwyk/Catwyk) to some road (Heerweg/Hellmwech) past Bodengraven, a settlement someway up the Rhine from Leiden. It also mentions installing a culvert (duyker) on the Leidschendam. However, the Heerweg mentioned here is a different one from the Heerweg between Leiden and Voorburch, as it is a common name for ancient roads.
